Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, former chief ministers MK Stalin, Arvind Kejriwal and Ashok Gehlot among others on Tuesday, May 12, targeted the central government after the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3 and said that the exam would be re-conducted on dates to be notified separately.
“The NEET 2026 exam has been canceled. The hard work, sacrifices, and dreams of more than 22 lakh students have been crushed by this corrupt BJP regime. Some fathers took loans, some mothers sold their jewellery, lakhs of children stayed up all night studying, and in return, they got paper leaks, government negligence, and organised corruption in education,” Rahul Gandhi wrote on X.

Gandhi further stated that it was “not just a failure” and rather a “crime against the future of the youth.”

“Every time, the paper mafia gets away scot-free, while honest students bear the punishment. Now, lakhs of students will once again endure the same mental stress, financial burden, and uncertainty. If one’s destiny is determined not by hard work but by money and connections, then what meaning will education hold? The Prime Minister’s so-called Amrit Kaal has turned into a poison era for the country,” he added.

Addressing a press conference, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal highlighted that it was not the first time when NEET paper leak has happened.
“This has happened four times. This only means that there is a collusion and political patronage. What is happening in this country? People who can’t conduct an examination properly, who will they run a government? It is a case of complete collusion. My sympathies are with the aspirants. I want to tell them that this govt only understands the language of ‘andolan’, and Kejriwal will stand by them,” he said while addressing a press conference.

Former Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot said that the cancellation of the NEET (UG) entrance exam indicates that “there was large-scale malpractice in this paper.”
“The BJP government in Rajasthan deliberately tried to cover it up for two weeks and tampered with the future of the youth. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has taken a bold decision in the interest of the youth by canceling the exam and handing over the investigation to the CBI,” he wrote on X.
Further, he stated that the state government had previously concealed the OMR sheet scam in the Employee Selection Board to avoid tarnishing the government’s image.
“Due to weak prosecution, the accused in that case were even granted bail. Similarly, now an attempt was made to hide information about the NEET (UG) exam leak, and no FIR was even filed. Now the truth has come out, and the true face of the BJP government has been exposed,” he added.

MK Stalin wrote, “#NEET – Never Been Neat: Once again this year, irregularities involving a #NEET Paper Leak have come to light, resulting in the cancellation of the examination. Hundreds of thousands of students have been subjected to immense mental anguish.”
Stalin went on to claim that NEET is an examination system “riddled with fraud at every single stage.”
“As I have consistently maintained, the issue is not merely that there are scams ‘within’ NEET; rather, NEET ‘itself’ is a scam,” he added.
He further asked the newly-elected C Joseph Vijay-led government in Tamil Nadu to “unequivocally declare its firm stance against the NEET examination. I urge the new administration to take forward the legal initiatives undertaken by our ‘Dravidian Model’ government—which sought an exemption for Tamil Nadu from NEET—and to ensure the success of this collective endeavour.”

Karnataka Minister MC Sudhakar has called it an “unpardonable incident”.
He told ANI that this was happening time and again. “I appeal to the Supreme Court and the Government of India to decentralise the whole system and consider the marks of the qualifying exam… The government is responsible for what is happening right now,” he said.
